FS13E - Payments by Multibanco

Category

Many Portuguese people now use the ATM machines as their preferred means of paying everyday bills, making the Multibanco system an indispensable tool for most consumers to do their banking. As foreign residents become more comfortable with the Multibanco system they are also using this as a preferred option rather than waiting in queues or trusting the on-line banking system.

From time to time our Members ask us for help in understanding the steps, for example to be able to pay for afpop Membership renewal. The operation is quite easy and to make a payment at a Multibanco machine you follow these steps:

1) Insert your bank card

2) Introduce your pin code

3) Click Ok or Enter

4) Choose Transferências

5) Enter the NIB (21 numbers) and the amount

6) Confirm or Enter

And it’s done!

For Service Payments (edp, water, gas)

At point 4) choose Pagamento de Serviços, and then enter the Entidade, Referência and Montante mentioned in the invoice by the service provider, then just confirm the operation.

For State Payments (IUC for example)

At point 4) choose Pagamentos ao Estado and enter the Entidade, Referência and Montante and then confirm the transaction.

It is advisable to always ask for a proof of payment slip, if possible, (Deseja Talão - Sim/Não) but sometimes this option is not available. However, you can always request that in your bank or check when you receive your bank statement.
